Gingerbread was a firm favorite at festivals and fairs in medieval Europe—often shaped and decorated to look like flowers, birds, animals or even armor – & sometimes adorned with gold leaf. Several cities in France and England regularly hosted “gingerbread fairs” in which locals would celebrate their unique gingerbread recipes.
Ladies also often gave their favorite knights a piece of gingerbread for good luck in jousting tournaments, or superstitiously ate a “gingerbread husband” to improve their chances of landing the real thing.
So say it with gingerbread this Valentine’s by purchasing a gift box of Billington’s Gingerbread. Available to purchase by clicking here.
